CAIRO – 16 December 2021: Egypt has started three major projects in South Sudan as part of a strategy to support the country.

In a Wednesday statement, an Egyptian government statement said the Electricity Holding Company signed an agreement to rehabilitate power stations in the cities of Yambio and Rumbek in South Sudan.

Egypt also began the first tourist investment project in Juba, South Sudan, of a five-star hotel and an international conference hall.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Irrigation and other Egyptian companies begin wide scale weed purging of Bahr al-Ghazal river in South Sudan.

South Sudanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Mayiik Ayii Deng thanked Egypt for its support, emphasizing the strong ties of the countries and saying he looks forward for more coordination and cooperation, according to the statement.

For his part, South Sudanese Minister of Irrigation said relations between the two countries are at their best, emphasizing that the Nile River connects them at many levels. He praised the purging of Bahr al-Ghazal river and other investment projects to harvest water for multiple purposes.
