CAIRO – 10 July 2017: A large number of Muslim Brotherhood members in prisons in the Fayoum and Beni Suef governorates, as well as those who feel sympathy toward the terrorist group, have announced their split with the Brotherhood, according to a hand-written document issued by the prisoners on Monday.

The move came after the prisoners reviewed their stance and discovered they were wrong.

"We are a group of prisoners in jails in the Fayoum and Beni Suef governorates, we decided to split with the political decision of the Brotherhood," the document read, adding, "Some of us were not related to the organization, yet adopted the group’s decisions; however, some of us were part of the organization ... both categories decide to terminate this connection with the Brotherhood."

They claimed that they contacted Brotherhood leaders in order to conduct reviews to get out of the serious crisis the Brotherhood went through following the outbreak of the revolution of June 30. However, leaders of the organization insisted on maintaining their stance.

"Egypt has experienced a severe state of polarization and bitter conflicts following the major incidents of recent years. All parties should have reviewed their political stances that led to this crisis," the document continued.

"We had talks with the Brotherhood regarding this respect for more than a year without getting any response," the document added, clarifying that "the Brotherhood insisted on adopting the same approach, so we find that we should assess our stances and ideas."

"We are sure that the Brotherhood was a main cause behind creating the crisis by neglecting that Egyptian institutions and people appeared against Mohammed Morsi, the former president. Early presidential elections should have been conducted in order to avoid any conflicts that might break out in accordance with democracy," the document concluded.
