Egypt to receive 3.9 M doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine by end of December

CAIRO- 5 December 2021:  Egypt received 600,000 doses of the Covid-19 vaccines of Johnson & Johnson and AstraZeneca, on Saturday, and would get additional 3.9 million doses of AstraZeneca/Oxford COVID-19 vaccine by the end of this month, said Acting Health Minister Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar in a statement on Sunday.
 
He added that all types of vaccines are available at vaccination centers nationwide, in addition to the manufacture of vaccines locally at the factories of the Holding Company For Biological Products and Vaccines (VACSERA).
 
The Minister’s comments were given during a meeting held on Saturday with Dr. Mohamed Hassani, Assistant Minister of Health and Population for Public Health Initiatives, and Minister's Advisor for IT affairs at Ministry of Health & Population Technical supervisor of the National health and population information center Ayssam Salah, the statement said.
 
During the meeting, the Acting Minister followed up on executive procedures of vaccinating certain citizens and medical stage with booster jabs. He also was briefed on process of vaccinating children  aged 12-15 years old, the statement added.
 
The Health Ministry said on Saturday night that 829 new coronavirus cases were detected in Egypt over the past 24 hours, upping the total number of infections to 362,260.
 
Health Ministry spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said 39 patients died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 20,682.
 
As many as 1003 patients were discharged from hospitals after receiving medical care, taking the number of recoveries to 300,437, it added
