CAIRO – 10 July 2017: The Qatari opposition released a leaked document on Monday revealing that Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani issued a decree to assign a Turkish general to hold a top post in the Qatari army.
The decree stated that a Turkish general, Tayeb Oral Oğlu, is assigned to be a deputy commander in the Qatari armed forces for six months, which could be renewed. This decree shall be implemented and come into effect from the date of its issuance.
The decree unveiled Tamim’s policy to depend on foreign elements among Qatar’s armed forces, in a move to clarify his lack of confidence of Qatar’s military personnel.
Earlier, on 11 June, a large number of Qatari military personnel expressed their opposition to Tamim’s decision to allow foreign troops to enter the country.
The coalition, formed by dissident members of the ruling Al-Thani family in a critical response to the recent diplomatic crisis, published a document signed by a number of Qatari military personnel expressing their disapproval of the decision.
Signatories of the document include high-profile Qatari military officers General Nasser bin Saad Al-Thani, Colonel Sultan Mansour Al-Subaie, Captain Fadel Khalid Al-Rahbi, Sergeant Mohammed Zakaria Hamad and other military personnel.
Several countries have severed ties with Qatar since June 5 over its alleged support of extremist groups across the Middle East region.
The second provision of the decree stated that military ranks dissented as an objection to the appointing of a Turkish general to be a deputy commander in the Qatari armed forces.
On Monday, a leaked document revealed that Qatar is ready to exit the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) within three days if the Arab countries' policy with it continues.
