Cairo sidewalks to be enhanced to enable access to persons with disabilities

CAIRO – 25 November 2021: A protocol was signed between several authorities and private agencies to allocate sidewalks suitable for accessibility of people with disability across Cairo.

The initiative stated in Street 9 in Maadi district, as a prelude to be expanded to all sidewalks.

The initiative includes preparing public and private facilities to enable persons with disabilities to enter and exit from these buildings, according to Hossam El-Din El-Amir, media advisor to the National Council for Persons with Disabilities.

The media advisor to the National Council for Persons with Disabilities pointed out that museums are being prepared to receive persons with disabilities, including the Museum of Civilization, and that all temples and museums in Luxor are prepared to receive persons with disabilities.

The facilities also include museums and temples in Luxor, and the Museum of Civilization that are prepared to receive persons with disabilities.

The step comes as the world awaits the inauguration of the King’s Festivities Road in Luxor Thursday night.

This step also goes the lines with the efforts exerted by the state to guarantee accessibility of persons with disabilities to facilities and buildings.

Egypt witnessed an unprecedented boom during the past eight years in the field of rehabilitation of persons with disabilities, as President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi was keen to ensure the rights of this group of citizens, in education, health, job opportunities, and pension.

The Law on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Egypt of 2018 obligates to provide opportunities for vocational preparation and job training for persons with disabilities according to their needs.
