CAIRO – 25 November 2021: The Cabinet's Information Center issued Thursday a report showcasing the rise of internet speed in Egypt to 45.9 megabytes/second in October 2021 up from 6.5 megabytes/second in January 2019.
The Cabinet attributed that sevenfold increase to investing LE60 billion in the project noting that public investments allocated to digital transformation were raised by 62.8 percent to become LE12.7 billion in FY2020/2021 instead of LE7.8 billion in FY2019/2020.
The report underlined introducing the Internet in 2,563 high schools at a cost of LE1 billion. That is in addition to connecting 18,000 out of 33,000 governmental buildings nationwide to fiber optic cables at a budget of LE6 billion.
The outcome of this is the increase in the number of internet users in Egypt so they now compose 71.4 percent of the population compared to just 22 percent in FY2013/2014. This means that added users constitute 49.4 percent of the population.
