CAIRO – 16 November 2021: In a meeting with parliamentarians at the House of Representatives Tuesday, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Al Sayed Al Qusair stated that Egypt produces annually 1.4 billion birds, and 14 billion eggs.

The minister noted that such production size made Egypt self-sufficient of pourtly. He added that the sector secures three million jobs, and has investments worth LE100 billion ($6.25 billion).

Al Qusair pointed out that nine zones, spanning over 19,000 feddans (one feddan equals 4,500 square meters) and lying in four governorates, have been allocated to pourtly investments. He added that 13 other zones are dedicated to pourtly and cattle production.

The meeting also covered measures aimed at maintaining prices and reducing imports, such as expanding the cultivation of soybeans and yellow corn to produce more feed, and increasing the production of veterinary serums and vaccines. Further, they also discussed decreasing the number of intermediaries in order to achieve a fair price for both producers and consumers.
