Sisi affirms Egypt’s support to Tunisia's efforts to achieve stability in meeting with PM Bouden

CAIRO – 12 November 2021: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi affirmed Egypt’s full support to Tunisia and the efforts made by President Kais Saied and the new Tunisian government to achieve stability and development to people.

In a meeting on Friday with Tunisian Prime Minister Najla Bouden in Paris on the sidelines of an international conference on Libya, Sisi affirmed Egypt’s readiness to provide all possible capabilities to the Tunisian side and develop bilateral relations, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Radi said in a statement.

Sisi congratulated Bouden on assuming her new post as the first woman prime minister in the Arab World, wishing her government success in overcoming the current challenges facing Tunisia.

Bouden conveyed Saied’s greetings to Sisi and hailed Egypt’s supportive efforts to the Tunisian affairs and the Egyptian pivotal role in preserving security and stability in its Arab and African surrounding.

She also expressed Tunisia’s appreciation of the distinguished relations with Egypt at the official and popular levels, affirming Tunisia’s keenness to benefit from Egypt’s success story under the inspirational leadership of Sisi.

Bouden also voiced keenness that Egypt transfers developmental experiment to Tunisia through intensified bilateral coordination in all fields, especially economy and security.

The meeting underscored joint political will and joint desire to enhance cooperation frameworks between Egypt and Tunisia and to enhance joint communication channels, especially at the political and security levels.

The two sides also affirmed desire to cooperate regarding exchanging information to counter terrorism and extremist thought, which pose a threat to the entire region.

Sisi and Bouden also discussed a number of regional issues of mutual concern, especially the situations in Libya.

They agreed on the need to enhance Egyptian-Tunisian coordination frameworks given that both countries share borders with Libya and that Tunisia is a current member of the United Nations Security Council.

This also comes in light of the Egyptian active role in the various paths to settle the Libyan crisis and with the aim of activating the Libyan people’s will through backing Libya’s state institutions and current efforts to achieve security and stability in Libya and preserve the Libyan unity.

Sisi also voiced appreciation for Tunisia’s support to Egypt’s stance calling for reaching a comprehensive legally-binding agreement on the filling and operation of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam. This was reflected in the presidential statement issued by the Security Council in this regard.

Sisi met on Thursday with French Armed Forces Minister Florence Parly, where they agreed on intensifying consultations and coordination during the coming period to counter terrorism.

Earlier on Friday, he also met with Bruno Le Maire, France's economy and finance minister.
