CAIRO – 28 October 2021: The Islamist Ennahda movement in Tunisia became in hot waters, not just for its latest “lobbying” contract which is currently being investigated, but for other several accusations including assassinations and corruption.

According to a Sky news report, many secrets are to be revealed during the coming period as the investigations continue against the movement that has a long history in Tunisia. Observers expect that the accusations against the Ennahda movement will lead to the discovery of many secrets about the movement's secret activities

Tunisian political analyst Nizar Jelidi said that despite digging into the history of Ennahda movement and taking serious steps against them, especially regarding the US lobbying contract deal, this was a step that should have been taken long ago.

Jalidi stressed the importance of opening all files related to Ennahda's corruption based on legal information and investigations, not political intrigue, and completing them as soon as possible.
In statements to Sky News Arabia, Jalidi said that the judicial file and these kinds of corruption investigations is one of the most important priorities of the newly announced government headed by Najla Bouden.

He added that there is a long list of accusations against the Brotherhood's Ennahda movement that will be decided by the judicial authorities, most notably receiving foreign funds and working for foreign parties.

“But the most dangerous issue facing the movement is the political assassinations accusations” Jalidi said. He explained that the list of assassinations includes politicians, Chokri Belaid and Mohamed Brahmi.

Jalidi noted that all evidence proves the involvement of the movement in these cases.
Tunisian legal expert Hazem Al-Kasuri believes that ‘it has become established that the Brotherhood's Ennahda movement received foreign funds during the parliamentary elections’.

He affirmed that the government is supposed to take firm steps and procedures against Ennahda movement regarding all violations it committed.

The ‘lobbying contract case’ with the US, which is currently being investigated by the Tunisian prosecution was a contract, Tunisia’s media circulated between Ennahda movement and other parties in the US with the aims to improve the movement’s image and manipulate public opinion to form a pressure group against President Kais Saied after his recent decisions.

Last July Tunisian President Kais Saied decided to terminate the duties of the secretary general of the government and director of the prime minister's office.

In a statement, the Tunisian presidency said that President Saied decided to sack a number of senior government officials, including Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi who was removed from his post.

Saied also suspended the parliament’s work.

Later in September, a new government was announced headed by Najla Bouden who was considered to be the first woman to hold the post in Tunisia’s history.
