CAIRO - 24 October 2021: The Health Ministry said Saturday that 881 new coronavirus cases were detected, upping the total number of confirmed cases reported in the country since the beginning of the outbreak to 323,733.

In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Dr Khaled Megahed said 47 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 18,242.

As many as 649 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 273,154 so far, the spokesman said.

On Oct.23, Zayed said that Egypt received the third shipment of Pfizer coronavirus vaccine at Cairo airport on Friday comprising 1.4 million doses offered by the US government through the COVAX initiative in cooperation with Gavi, the vaccine alliance.

US Ambassador Jonathan R. Cohen had said last week that the Pfizer vaccines are a direct donation from the people of the United States to the people of Egypt. “This is part of eight million Pfizer vaccine doses the United States is sending to Egypt.”

The shipments are part of 500 million Pfizer vaccine doses donated by the US to the African Union countries through the COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX).

Egypt's first Pfizer vaccines shipment arrived from the US in late September.
