CAIRO – 20 October 2021: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry meet, Wednesday with Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar in Benghazi as part of his visit to Libya to participate in ‘Libya’s Stability Support Conference’.
During his visit Shoukry also meet with several leaders of East Libya including Vice President of the Libyan Government Hussein Al-Qatrani, and Benghazi Mayor, According to Spokesperson Ambassador Ahmed Hafiez.
He added that Shoukry’s visit to Benghazi aimed to follow up on the latest developments of the establishment of Egypt’s Consulate building.
During meeting with East Libyan officials, Shoukry discussed ways to enhance cooperation between Cairo and Tripoli to serve the interests of the two countries and the two brotherly peoples within the framework of the multiple bonds that bind them.
Also, during meeting with Haftar, Shoukry affirmed Egypt’s full support for all efforts aiming to achieve Libya’s security and stability.
Shoukry noted to Egypt’s great interest to reach a political solution regarding the Libyan crisis in a way that meets the aspirations of the brotherly people of Libya to move towards the future, and to restore the country’s unity, sovereignty and desired stability.
Shoukry arrived in Tripoli Wednesday morning to participate in ‘Libya’s Stability Support Conference’ which was attended by several Arab and European officials and Minsters.
On the sidelines of the conference, Shoukry conducted several meetings with his counterparts; the foreign ministers of Tunisia, Greece, Algeria France and Chad.
Shoukry also met with Prime Minister of the Libyan Government of National Unity Abdelhamid al-Dbeibah and affirmed during a speech at the conference Egypt’s Support to Libya and its keenness on conducting the awaited elections on its pre-decided date next December.
