CAIRO – 21 October 2021: Consultant to Irrigation Minister for Horizontal Expansion Naim Moselhy stated in a phone-in Wednesday that the implementation of the irrigation network infrastructure in New Delta had begun.

Moselhy noted that a giant wastewater treatment plant is being built with a daily capacity of 7.5 million cubic meters, to reclaim and irrigate lands in the new project, spanning over 2.2 million feddans (one feddan equals 4,500 square meters).

President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi stated in September that a massive wastewater treatment would be completed in June 2022 in Hamam District western Egypt in order to reclaim and irrigate 1.5-2 million feddans in New Delta.

The project is estimated to create five million jobs, and the area will be cultivated with strategic crops like wheat, corn, and vegetables. The cost of reclamation per feddan is LE200,000.
