CAIRO - 18 October 2021: A Zagazig Criminal Court in Sharqiya on Monday sentenced fugitive Mulism Brotherhood members Moataz Matar, a T.V. presenter at Turkey-based of Al Sharq channel, and Hossam Al Shorbagy, a T.V. broadcaster at Mekameleen channel, to 15 years in prison each in absentia for charges of contempt of court.
In November 2019, the defendants were referred to the trial for a judge in the Zagazig Court of First Instance as they online accused him of misusing his judicial authority and position. As per investigations, they also face charges of belonging to a banned terrorist group of the Muslim Brotherhood.
In 2015, local news reported that Matar was stanched to 10 years in prison and was fined LE 700 for charges of charges of inciting to overthrow the regime and spreading false news.
