CAIRO – 13 October 2021: Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly issued a decision announcing Thursday 21 October an official paid holiday in ministries, government departments, and bodies, on the occasion of Prophet Mohamed’s birthday (Mawlid Al-Nabi).
The paid holiday comes instead of Tuesday, October 19, as the government decided last year to adjourn any holiday lying in the middle of the week to Thursdays of the same week.
This does not apply to the Christmas and Muslim’s Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha.
Prophet Mohamed’s birthday, also known as Mawlid, is commemorated in Rabi' al-awwal, the third month in the Islamic calendar.
People in some Muslim countries including Egypt celebrate the occasion by buying different kinds of sweets and holding public gatherings.
