CAIRO – 8 October 2021: Russian and Philippines Journalists Dmitry Muratov and journalist Maria Ressa both won on Friday the Nobel Peace Prize for 2021.

Chairwoman Berit Reiss-Andersen of the Norwegian Nobel Committee told a news conference said that the prize is bestowed on the two journalists for their “courageous fight for freedom of expression in the Philippines and Russia."

"At the same time, they are representatives of all journalists who stand up for this ideal in a world in which democracy and freedom of the press face increasingly adverse conditions," she added.

The Nobel Award has been created by Swedish chemist Alfred Nobel who died on 10 December 1896. The Nobel Peace Prize will be presented to the two journalists on the anniversary of his death.
