CAIRO – 8 October 2021: Former Lebanese Prime Minister Saad El-Hariri extended his greetings on Thursday to Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on the occasion of the 48th anniversary of the 6th of October War victory in 1973.

Hariri also hailed in a tweet the Egyptian support to Lebanon with the aim of alleviating people’s social and economic suffering.

Hariri said he sent a telegram to Sisi, wishing that God bestows prosperity and stability on Egyptians on this occasion.

“Hariri also expressed his thanks and appreciation for Egypt’s support to Lebanon and its people and [Egypt’s] permanent initiatives to lift the grievances on our people and alleviate their economic and social suffering,” Hariri wrote on his Twitter.

The latest of these initiatives was Egypt’s step to supply Lebanon with Egyptian gas, according to Hariri.

Egypt will export natural gas to Lebanon in the coming weeks in cooperation with Syria and Jordan, Minister of Petroleum Tarek El-Molla said in a Tuesday press conference.

Earlier in September, Egypt has agreed to pipe natural gas to Lebanon through Jordan and Syria in a meeting involving the energy minister of the four countries in Amman.

The meeting addressed a US-backed plan to facilitate the exportation of Egyptian gas to Jordan so as to generate electricity and transmit it to Lebanon via Syria.

Egypt is working to quickly coordinate the arrival of its natural gas to Lebanon based on its keenness to contribute to supporting Lebanon and its stability, Molla said last month.

Molla affirmed Egypt’s keenness to fulfill cooperation in this field due to the great importance of Egyptian natural gas in supporting Lebanon and meeting the needs of the Lebanese people.

The minister affirmed that this cooperation stems from Egypt’s supportive role toward the Arab brothers in all issues and comes as per the directives of President Sisi.

A day after his resignation as Lebanon’s prime minister-designate in July, Hariri revealed his country’s plans to import Egyptian gas through Syria, saying he discussed the issue during his visit to Cairo.

Hariri said his country would save 50-60 percent of the cost if it uses the Egyptian gas in its stations.
