CAIRO – 9 July 2017: An attacker accused of assassinating a police officer in Minya Governorate was killed in an exchange of fire with security forces after discovering his hiding place, the Ministry of Interior announced on Sunday.
The officer was fatally shot while he was targeting drug dealers in a district of Minya.
A criminal investigation team was formed to track the attacker’s identity, announcing his name as Faragani A. Ali, an unemployed male living in Asyut Governorate wanted for two previous cases with a number of verdicts issued against him.
The perpetrator hid in mountains by the Western Desert Road, according to information released by the criminal investigation team.
Security troops shot dead Faragani and seized a machine gun from his hiding place, in addition to other confiscations.
A second perpetrator accused in the same case was named Abdel-Basset H. Mohammed, who later handed himself over to the Minya Security Directorate.
Meanwhile, the vehicle used in the incident was seized in El-Wahaat district in the Western Desert.
