CAIRO – 18 September 2021: Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli congratulated on Saturday the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA) after winning the Habitat Scroll of Honor Award for 2021.

According to a statement by the Housing Ministry, NCUA was granted the UN prestigious award in sustainable urban development from among 170 nominees in several states.

Madbouli hailed the remarkable achievement by all standards through building this number of new cities nationwide over the past seven years.

Minister of Housing Assem Al-Gazzar said the ministry received a letter from the UN-Habitat, stating that NUCA should receive the award for its long-term role in achieving sustainable urbanization.

This includes providing safe and affordable social housing projects to encourage social cohesion of the population, in line with the sustainable development goals and Egypt’s Vision 2030.

The minister said the award ceremony will be held for the winners of the certificates of the UN-Habitat for the year 2021, during the celebration of its international day in Cameroonian capital of Yaounde on the 4th of October.

NUCA’s budget until 2013 has not exceeded LE 7 billion, while its investment budget now amounts to about LE 120 billion, which is spent annually on infrastructure, housing, and services projects in new cities, Gazzar said.

The minister pointed out that NUCA, during the past seven years, received great support from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, who believed in its capabilities in construction and development.

The authority has been also keen in providing civil mass transportation for the residents of the new cities, and soon the residents of the new cities would enjoy the services of the monorail and the electric train, Gazzar said.

This is in addition to youth centers, sporting clubs, bike lanes, tourism paths in coastal cities and gardens, especially the central gardens in the New Administrative Capital.

The minister announced that the New Urban Communities Authority is currently implementing 25 new fourth-generation cities, within the framework of planned urban expansion to accommodate the population increase and provide opportunities for investment and work.
