CAIRO – 9 September 2021: A Cairo criminal court sentenced three men on Thursday to 15 years in prison over luring a woman and kidnaping and raping her in a resort in North Coast.
The ruling is not final and can be appealed.
The prosecution in April publicly named the defendants as Sherif El-Komy, Youssef Qorra and Amir Zayed.
They have faced accusations of having sexual intercourse with woman in a resort in North Coast in 2015 without her consent, according to the prosecution.
The prosecution said it referred the defendants to the court after watching footage for two of the defendants while raping the victim.
It added that biometrics introduced by the Interior Ministry could identify the victim and one of the defendants.
The prosecution said it also listened to the testimony of the victim and six witnesses before the referral decision.
The prosecution warned of some attempts on social media “to disturb public peace” after the judicial rulings.
“The Public Prosecution office closely follows what is published on social media sites regarding the decisions issued by the judiciary on considering the freedom of some of the accused,” the prosecution said.
It added that some people publish content with the aim of “agitating people and disturbing the public peace by presenting an unreal image of the reality established in the investigations.”
The prosecution affirmed that the only way to appeal the judicial decisions is through the procedures stipulated by law.
The prosecution vowed decisive response to any attempts to undermine that judicial prestige or to publish false news about the investigations.
