CAIRO – 2 September 2021: A trilateral summit in Cairo involving Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Jordan’s King Abdullah II affirmed the need for concerted efforts along with partners to revive the Israeli-Palestinian peace talks.
The summit held on Thursday highlighted the importance of resuming the negotiations in accordance with the international legitimacy resolutions, Presidential spokesman Bassam Radi said.
This comes given the grave consequences of not resolving the Palestinian cause on the security and stability of the entire region, the presidency added.
During the summit, Sisi affirmed the need to work to achieve all the legitimate rights, hopes and aspirations of the Palestinian people.
The Egyptian president explained the country’s vision on how to revive the peace process, the consolidation of the truce in the Gaza Strip and the reconstruction process in the Gaza Strip.
Achieving the Palestinian people’s hopes for an independent state will come only through uniting the Palestinian ranks and ending the long-standing division between the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, Sisi said.
Sisi expressed Egypt’s appreciation of the historic relations with Jordan and Palestine of the official and popular levels.
For their part, King Abdullah and President Abbas thanked Sisi for the initiative to hold this tripartite summit, saying that it comes at a vital time in the wake of the recent developments, the presidency said.

King Abdullah and Abbas also affirmed that the summit represents an opportunity to hold discussions about the ideal way to advance the peaceful process and on how to bring the Palestinian people’s cause back to the top of the international community’s priorities.
The discussions addressed the developments on the Palestinian territories on the regional and international levels, the presidency said.
The summit affirmed the Egyptian and Jordanian support to the Palestinian state and President Abbas in the face of any movements or measures that may prejudice the constants of the Palestinian cause.
This includes any unilateral change that may harm the right of the Palestinian people to have an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital, the summit stressed.
