CAIRO – 31 August 2021: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi congratulated Zambia's veteran opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema on winning the presidential poll held earlier this month.
Sisi extended his congratulations during a phone call, Tuesday with the newly-elected president, according to a statement by Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady.
During the phone call, President Sisi highlighted the special importance he pays to mutual consultation with Zambia, which is clearly manifested in the frequently exchanged visits between senior officials from both countries.
Sisi also lauded the active role played by Zambia in southern Africa and the entire continent, asserting Egypt's commitment to fostering bilateral cooperation, especially in investments and trade exchange, and spurring development in Zambia.
Meanwhile, Hichilema thanked President Sisi for his kind gesture, hailing the steady progress in bilateral ties, the spokesman said.
Hichilema also voiced appreciation of Egypt's anti-coronavirus and capacity-building support to his country, which has a keen interest in luring more Egyptian investments, especially in the agriculture, energy, ICT, healthcare, and aquaculture sectors
