Egyptian Armed Forces congratulated Feryal Ashraf, the Olympic Champion of Karate, after she won the gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
CAIRO - 17 August 2020: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi stressed his full support of medal-wining Egyptian athletes to make further sportive achievements.
"I felt honored today to award my sons and daughters, the heroes of Egypt, for their great achievement at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, as they are the best role models for young people in showing excellence and strong determination", the president said on his Twitter account.
"I always affirm my full support to provide all the potentials needed by athletes of all age groups in different games, so that they could make further sportive achievements and advance Egypt's status in international forums. Thank you, heroes, and get ready for a greater achievement in the upcoming Olympic Games," Sisi added.
Sisi congratulated Egyptian karateka Feryal Ashraf Abdelaziz on winning Egypt's first gold medal at Tokyo Olympic Games.
"I would like to congratulate Feryal Ashraf (Abdelaziz) on winning a gold medal in Karate at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. It is a new achievement that makes us proud and proves the Egyptians' ability to fullfil achievements in all fields. I am proud of my daughter Feryal Ashraf and every Egyptian who honors Egypt in the international events." President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi tweeted.
Feryal defeated the World no.1 Irina Zaretska from Azerbaijan 2-0 in the final to clinch the gold medal.
Feryal became the first Egyptian girl to win a gold medal in the Olympic Games and the 8th athlete in the nation's history to achieve a gold medal.
The Egyptian national anthem was played at the Olympic Games for the first time since Athens Olympic Games in 2004 when Karam Gaber won the gold medal in Greco-Roman wrestling.
In the sport's historic debut at the Olympic Games, the Egyptian karate team managed to win two medals for Egypt as Giana Farouk won the bronze medal on Friday.
