Egyptian president, CIA director confer over 5 crises, including Afghanistan's

CAIRO – 15 August 2021: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi received Sunday in Al Itihadiyah Palace Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Williams Burns as they conferred over a number of crises of mutual interest.

 

The focus was on tensions Eastern Mediterranean, developments in Afghanistan, updates of the Palestinian Cause and the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) issue as well as the Libyan crisis.

 

The meeting was attended by Chief of the Egyptian General Intelligence Directorate Abbas Kamel, and U.S. Ambassador to Cairo Jonathan Cohen.

 

The CIA's director delivered the greetings of U.S. President Joe Biden expressing appreciation for the close ties between both countries, and eagerness on continuous consultation over various challenges.

 

On his side, President Sisi asked Burns to greet his American counterpart on his behalf stressing Egypt's prioritization for reinforcing cooperation with the United States in all fields, particularly the security and intelligence ones in order to face terrorism and extremism.
