CAIRO – 9 August 2021: The Sharm El-Sheikh International Airport received on Monday the first flight coming from the Russian capital since a 6-year-ban on direct Russian flights to the Egyptian Red Sea cities was lift.
The plane carried 517 Russian passengers from Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport. It is the third to visit the Red Sea resorts on this day.
The plane received water salutes and passengers were greeted with folkloric shows inside the airport. The halls were decorated with the flags of the two countries and showed welcome messages to the visitors.
Roses, chocolate and souvenirs were presented to the tourists, a statement read, while preventive measures were taken.
Minister of Aviation Mohamed Manar said the resumption of Russian tourism to Egypt came thanks to the efforts and support of the political leadership to the civil aviation sector during the past years.
Flight MS724 of an Airbus A330-300, operated by EgyptAir, arrived Hurghada with 300 Russian tourists on board.
The airport staff received Russian tourists with roses, souvenirs, and flyers that include information about Egyptian tourist destinations in the Russian language.
Lamia Kamel, Assistant Minister of Tourism and Antiquities for Promotion was among the recipients to welcome Russian tourists at the airport.
She noted that the Russian tourist group expressed his happiness to return to the Egyptian tourist resorts in the Red Sea where they will enjoy the sunny beaches, landscapes, warm atmosphere and the various marine activities.
A Russian airlines’ plane also arrived late at the Hurghada airport as the second direct flight to the Egyptian resorts since the 2015 ban.
