CAIRO – 9 August 2021: Three military planes have taken off to Tunisia with tons of medical aid on board to help alleviate the Covid-19 crisis in the North-African country.

Medical equipment and medications donated by the Egyptian Health Ministry are included in the shipments of Monday.

Tunisian officials expressed gratitude upon the arrival of the planes, applauding Egypt’s solidarity, and the importance of such aid at this time.

Four military planes flew to Tunisia in July with tons of aid as Tunisian President Kais Saied confronts the crisis after widescale sacking of officials and investigations into businessmen over “corruption” that resulted in the novel coronavirus spreading outrageously.

Egypt has since thrown its full support behind Saied’s move.

Most recently, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry visited Saied on Aug. 3 in Carthage Palace to deliver a message from President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.

The Tunisian presidency said in a statement that the meeting was an opportunity to thank Egypt again for its solidarity and noble stance with Tunisia in the face of Covid-19.

Saied emphasized solidifying coordination and cooperation with Egypt, reiterating that Egypt’s stability and security are part of Tunisia’s.
