CAIRO – 30 July 2021: Donkeys are in danger of extinction due to slaughtering them for their skins, said head of the Egyptian Farmers’ Syndicate Hussein Abdel Rahman Abu Saddam in a statement on Friday.

“With the low prices of donkeys and the increase in the prices of their skins, some people tended to slaughter them export the skins outside the country, and sell their meat to feed the animals,” he said in a statement on Thursday.

The need for using donkeys in agriculture began to decrease after paving roads and inventing vehicles and machines in the agriculture fields, he said.

Abu Saddam added that several people were arrested for selling donkey meat to restaurants as livestock. Donkey meat is forbiden in Egypt religiously.
