CAIRO – 29 July 2021: The first batch of new air-conditioned trains is planned to arrive at Alexandria Port coming from Hungary during August, stated the Ministry of Transport.
The train vehicles are part of a deal signed between the Railway authority and Transmash Holding Company, the representative of the Russian-Hungarian alliance that supplies the deal of 1,300 vehicles.
According to the deal, 51 percent of the vehicles are manufactured in Russia and 49 percent are manufactured in Hungary. A total of 460 vehicles out of 500 have arrived in Egypt so far.
Worth one billion, 16 million and 50 thousand Euros, the deal is to manufacture and supply the Egyptian railway system with 1,300 train vehicles.
The new vehicles are third-class vehicles with dynamic ventilation, and will operate on the main lines.
The deal includes 800 air-conditioned cars and 500 third class cars with dynamic ventilation.
Egypt has started receiving new train vehicles as part of a plan to renovate its train fleet. The deal is meant to raise the efficiency of daily operation and regularity of operating schedules, aiming to improve the service provided for passengers.
