Egypt’s Sisi: Women’s empowerment is the key to building strong civilizations

CAIRO – 8 July 2021: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi affirmed on Thursday that Egypt over the coming two years will focus on two main issues: empowering women economically and combating the negative impacts of terrorism and extremism against women.

 

In his speech at the 8th Session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Ministerial Conference on Women, President Sisi announced the establishment of ‘the Organization of Women’s development,’ the first specialized organization within the framework of OIC work to promote and protect women's rights.

 

“I am pleased to participate today in the opening of the 8th Session of the OIC Ministerial Conference on Women in the Egyptian Administrative Capital, which represents an image of modern Egypt,” said President Sisi, adding that Organization of Women’s development is the first specialized organization within the framework of OIC work to promote and protect women's rights.

 

“Egypt gave great attention to women amid the COVID-19 pandemic. There is a lot of work we have to do for helping women enjoy their rightful status in our society,” he continued.

 

 

Islam gave women their rights more than 1,400 years ago, President Sisi continued, affirming that women’s empowerment is the key to building strong civilizations.

 

“Egypt will spare no effort to support the Organization of Women's Development within the framework of OIC work,” he said.

 

He announced that Egypt will pay annual financial contributions that should be paid by countries with low growth rates and who are 22 members of the Organization of Women’s development.

 

President of Egypt's National Council for Women Maya Morsy said in her speech at the conference that Egypt has taken a package of measures and legislative amendments in favor of women.

 

OIC Secretary-General Yousef bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen praised Egypt’s efforts in women’s empowerment, saying that women face many challenges that we have to fight.
