CAIRO – 2 July 2021: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi will inaugurate on Saturday the 3 July Naval Base in the Mediterranean city of Gargoub that lies on the northwestern border with Libya.

The July 3 military base is located in the Al-Negila town, 70 kilometers west of Marsa Matrouh city.

This military base is one of the most important Egyptian bases in the western region.

The Gargoub base strategic dimension is represented in securing the economic zone from the Egyptian northern coast on the Mediterranean and with the borders of Libya.

The construction of these bases comes within the framework of the comprehensive development plan for the Egyptian Navy.

Such bases will be focal points and launching centers for logistical support for the Egyptian forces in the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea.

These aims to confront the challenges and threats currently present in the region.

Their missions will include the protection of the Egyptian economic interests as well as securing global shipping lines and Egypt’s role In protecting the security of navigation in the eastern and southeastern Mediterranean.

The military spokesman published a video, in which he said the 3 July Base is a military base that its facilities conform to the code of the global military bases.

The base represents an integrated military scope that forms a launching base to protect the ownership of the Egyptian nation along the northern and western strategic directions, the spokesman said.

Qader 2021 maneuver will be executed in the base, he added.
