CAIRO – 1 July 2021: Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population announced finishing manufacturing the first batch of the Chinese vaccine of Sinovac locally.
Produced at Vacsera factories, the locally-manufactured Sinovac vaccine will be analyzed by the Medicines Authority to ensure its safety before it is distributed to 400 vaccine centers across the country.
The Ministry of Health announced that 15 million doses of Sinovac Vaccine will be produced locally on a monthly basis starting in August.
Egypt plans to manufacture 40 million doses of vaccines by the end of this year, added the ministry. The vaccines will be produced at Egypt’s Vacsera factory.
“This achievement comes in light of the political leadership’s directives to secure Egypt’s needs for the Coronavirus vaccine,” the ministry said.
At total of 300,000 doses were produced out of a total of 2 million and 250 thousand doses scheduled to be produced in the first phase.
The directives of President Sisi is to possess national capabilities in manufacturing vaccines, according to the ministry’s statement.
“We signed a deal with the Chinese company Sinovac to manufacture 40 million doses annually, and they agreed to increase it to 80 million doses,” read the statement.
