Egypt to accomplish 20 centers for plasma collection by end of 2023

CAIRO – 30 June 2021: The Ministry of Health and Population declared Wednesday that 20 centers for plasma collection will be established by the end of 2023 as well as a strategic central storage within a plan to achieve self-sufficiency of plasma.

In 2021, six centers have been accomplished in five governorates, which include Giza, Alexandria, and Minya. In 2022, six others will be introduced in Sohag, Daqahliya, Damietta, Menoufeya, Ismailiyah, and Beheira at LE650 million. Eight other governorates will also house plasma collection centers by the end of 2023.

The ministry noted that Egypt is expected to achieve self-sufficiency of plasma within 6-8 years where exporting will begin. Now, Egypt imports its needs of plasma derivatives to treat burn injuries, cancer, haemophilia, and diseases of the liver, kidneys, and immunity.
