Egypt aims at becoming regional hub for COVID-19 vaccines’ manufacturing: Presidential Health Adviser

CAIRO – 28 June 2021: Egypt aims at becoming a regional hub for COVID-19 vaccines’ manufacturing whether for the African continent or for any other countries per president Abdel Fattah al Sisi directives.

Presidential Adviser for Health and Prevention Affairs Mohamed Awad Tag El Din said in statements, Sunday, that Covid-19 crises has proven the necessity of having technical capabilities for providing supplies, medicines and vaccines whenever needed.

“It is important to have medical companies with international specifications capable of providing the necessary vaccines, in order not to face any crises in providing vaccines for citizens” Tag El Din added.

Egypt’s Health Ministry said Sunday night that 389 new coronavirus cases were detected, upping the total number of confirmed cases since the outbreak in the country began to 280,394.

In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said 30 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 16,092.

As many as 657 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 210,052 so far, the spokesman said.

Egypt received on June 24, a consignment of 210,000 doses of Sputnik V anti-COVID-19 vaccine within a deal to acquire 10 million doses.

Spokesperson of the Ministry of Health and Population Khaled Megahed stated on June 15 that Egypt would receive soon 1.9 million AstraZeneca doses through Covax, and one million Sinopharm doses.
