CAIRO – 17 June 2021: The Ministry of Local Development indicated in a report Thursday the number of encroachments on state-owned lands that have been eliminated, and the status of reconciliation over unlicensed buildings.

 

With regard to encroachments eliminated between May 2017 and November 2019, they recorded 280,142 spanning over 190 million square meters (out of 454,001 spanning over 232 million square meters) and 224,189 stretching over 2.4 million feddans (out of 280,142 stretching over 2.8 million feddans).

 

As for reconciliation requests over unlicensed buildings, the figure amounts to 2.8 million and the value of reconciliation fees collected is LE18 billion ($1.15 billion).

 

President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi launched in 2017 a campaign to eliminate encroachments on state-owned lands. Also, in 2020, a law was promulgated mandating the licensing of unlicensed buildings or facing demolishing.
