CAIRO – 15 June 2021: President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has invited Qatari Prince Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to visit Egypt at the earliest opportunity, according to a Tuesday statement by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met with the Prince on Tuesday in Doha, where he relayed a message from Sisi on furthering joint consultation and enhancing ties in the coming period.

In the message, Sisi also said he looks forward to an ongoing exchange of initiatives to resume cooperation mechanisms and settling all “outstanding issues” within the framework of the tangible progress in Egyptian-Qatari relations in the aftermath of Al-Ula agreement.

Shoukry reiterated Egypt’s position on defending Gulf states against any threats or dangers.

For his part, Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani conveyed his greetings to Sisi, expressing his appreciation for the progress in relations and the exchange of ministerial visits.

The Prince and Shoukry discussed regional and international issues, means to strengthen coordination as Qatar presides the Arab League to consolidate joint Arab action.

On Monday, Shoukry held meetings with top Qatari officials in Doha. Earlier in May, Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani visited Cairo along with a high-profile delegation, where they tackled “outstanding issues” as well as Ethiopia’s Renaissance Dam.
