CAIRO – 26 May 2021: Chancellor Angela Merkel expressed to President Abdel Fattah al Sisi in a phone call, Wednesday Germany's great appreciation for Egypt’s role reaching ceasefire in Gaza
Sisi and Merkel agreed on the importance of the exit of all mercenaries and foreign militias from Libya according to presidential spokesman Bassam Radi.
Merkel lauded friendly relations with Egypt. She also reiterated keenness on maintaining coordination with Sisi towards regional and international developments of common interest.
Merkel praised Sisi's efforts to preserve security and stability in the Middle East and achieve comprehensive development in the entire region.
Sisi assured Egypt's keenness on backing partnership with Germany and enhancing coordination towards many political, security and economic files, hoping of more German investments in the Egyptian market given the fact that Germany is one of Egypt's main partners in the European continent.
He lauded Merkel's efforts to boost relations between Egypt and Germany since the moment she assumed post.
Regional and international parties welcomed the ceasefire that was reached as a result of the Egyptian efforts exerted during the past period.
US President joe Biden thanked Egypt’s President Sisi and hailed the efforts exerted by the Egyptian senior politicians to reach a ceasefire in Gaza in remarks from the White House.
“I extend my sincere gratitude to president El-Sisi and the senior Egyptian officials who played such a critical role in this diplomacy”, Biden said.
He added that he “appreciates the contributions of other parties in the region who have been engaged in working toward the end of hostilities.”
“These hostilities have resulted in the tragic deaths of so many civilians, including children. And I send my sincere condolences to all the families, Israeli and Palestinian who have lost loved ones and my hope for a full recovery for the wounded,” Biden said.
