CAIRO – 17 May 2021: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi announced Egypt’s participation in the international initiative to settle the Sudan debts, as he addressed the Paris Conference to Support the Transition in Sudan on Monday.

This will be carried out through using Egypt’s share at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) against the doubtful debts, Sisi explained.

The president noted that such decision comes as part of Egypt’s commitment to support the steps the Sudanese government has taken to achieve economic stability, settle the country’s accumulated debts and ease its financing burdens.

Sisi said Egypt spares no effort to support the sustainability of peace, development and stability in Sudan.

Sisi said Egypt’s participation in the conference stems from an Egyptian belief that the security and stability of Sudan is inseparable from those of Egypt and the region.

The president highlighted the necessity that the Sudanese parties themselves lead the efforts to establish peace and stability in the country.

This should be implemented in accordance with a comprehensive national consensus that is based on the national priorities of the Sudanese people, Sisi said.

The president, in this regard, hailed the transitional government’s achievements, on top of which is the comprehensive peace agreement last October.

He said this agreement requires the support of the international community so that its entitlements are fully implemented.

Sisi called for supporting the Sudanese efforts within the framework of the disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration programs.

“The challenges that many countries in out region have faced during the past period have proven that the construction of the state’s pillars and its various institutions on strong and sound foundations, especially the unified national army, is considered the main pillar that ensures peace and stability in [these countries],” Sisi said.

The president called for upholding the principle of citizenship based on a national consensus that includes all people of Sudan.

He said it is one of the main guarantees to protect the Sudanese people’s fabric against attempts to sow division.

Sisi praised the comprehensive economic vision the Sudan transitional council has introduced and also hailed its endeavor to benefit from the Egyptian expertise in economic reform.

“Establishing peace and stability in Sudan necessarily requires providing a suitable political and security environment in its regional surrounding,” the president said.

He noted that this will “enable Sudan to preserve its stability based on the rules of the international law and the relevant international agreements, including the 1902 agreement.”

Sisi also underscored the necessity to support the Sudanese right in extending its sovereignty over its whole territory.

The president thanked his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, for hosting the conference to garner international support for Sudan.

He hailed Sudan’s December revolution, saying “it marked the beginning of a new era and opened horizons of hope to the brotherly Sudanese people in a better future”.
