CAIRO - 6 July 2017: The Cairo Criminal Court postponed to July 16 the retrial of former president Mohamed Morsi and leaders of the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood group on charges of prison break, attacking police facilities and killing policemen following the January 25 revolution in 2011.

Morsi and the other defendants escaped from Wadi el Natroun prison in January 2011 with the help of elements of the Palestinian movement Hamas, the Lebanese Hezbollah group, the international organization of the Muslim Brotherhood and the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.

In June 2015, the Cairo Criminal Court sentenced Morsi, MB supreme guide Mohamed Badie and four MB leaders to death. Twenty more were handed life imprisonment sentences.

In November 2016, the Court of Cassation annulled the death sentences and rigorous imprisonment terms against Morsi and the other defendants in the case and ordered a retrial.
