CAIRO – 6 July 2017: The ninth session of the Arab Water Ministerial Council (AWMC) kicked off here Thursday at the Arab League (AL) headquarters with the participation of several Arab water ministers or their representatives.

The AWMC meetings, chaired by Iraq, will probe a number of topics, notably the future of Arab water under occupation based on the outcome of the international conference held in October 2016 in collaboration with the Palestinian Water Authority (PWA).

Also, the AWMC is to review the results of meetings on developing guidelines for cooperation among Arab states on shared water.

The AWMC will touch on the progress made in the implementation of key projects set in the executive plan of the Arab water security strategy and the role of partnership established between Arab states and regional and international organizations in undertaking those projects to provide new opportunities as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Furthermore, it will discuss the latest developments of projects being carried out in light of a regional initiative on interrelation between the water, food and energy sectors.

The AWMC will explore Arab preparations for the 8th World Water Forum, which is due to be held in Brazil in 2018
