Russia - 5 July 2017: As for the Qatari crisis and the accusation that the Arab League did nothing to contain the crisis, Abul Gheit said the crisis is very sensitive and requires an intervention from the Gulf countries. That is why the Arab League adopted from the start the Kuwaiti mediation to achieve a breakthrough, he added.
According to the Arab League charter, all Arab countries are members of the Arab League and so the pan-Arab body cannot adopt a certain stance against the other. I think all sides engaged in the crisis fully understand the Arab League stance, he added.
Speaking on the same issue, Lavrov said Russia is ready to boost efforts to contain the crisis, adding that the Russian president contacted Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, the Saudi and Bahraini kings, the emir of Qatar and the Turkish prime minister in this regard.
