Egypt, FAO discuss government’s mechanisms in facing water scarcity

 

 

CAIRO – 29 April 2021:  Egypt suffers from water scarcity and that is why the government is carrying out several projects aiming at rationalizing water consumption, said Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Mohamed Abdel Atti in a meeting with Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative of FAO in the Near East and North Africa region Abdul Hakeem Ragab on Wednesday.

 

Abdel Atti highlighted how water and agriculture are interconnected for achieving food security, noting that the country using water systems that are used to contribute to improving the agricultural mechanisms and bridging the current food gap in Egypt.

 

The Minister also invited the FAO to participate in the fourth Cairo Water Week, due on October 24-28.

 

Egypt is facing a water scarcity problem due to population increase and climate change, which requires the state to take new measures to be able to rationalize water use.
