Ashmawi; Egypt’s famous executioner dies

CAIRO – 26 April 2021: Hussain Al-Qarni Al-Fiqi or “Ashmawi” as he was used to be called for being the most famous executioner in Egyptian prisons, has died on Sunday.

Died of heart attack, Al-Fiqi entered the Guinness Book of World Records for carrying out 1,070 executions during the period from 1990 until her retired in 2011.

Funeral services were held to transfer Al-Fiqi for burial in his home village of Minya Samanoud in Dakahlia governorate in Delta.

Al-Fiqi was born in 1940s, and joined the Ministry of Interior in 1970s.
