CAIRO – 21 April 2021: Egypt’s First Lady Entissar Amer marked on Thursday the 48th anniversary of the 10th of Ramadan Victory against Israeli occupation, saying it reflects the country’s precious value in its people’s consciousness.

The 10th of Ramadan victory corresponds to October 6 War, 1973 where Arab countries led by Egypt and Syria defeated the Israeli forces mostly in Sinai and the Golan.

“Today, we remember together the anniversary of the 10th of Ramadan victory, a patriotic battle that reflects Egypt’s precious value in the consciousness of its people,” Amer said in a Facebook post.

She added that during that day, Egypt’s “armed forces set a great example of heroism and sacrifice to restore the land and the Egyptians’ dignity”.

The first lady paid tribute to the “nation’s martyrs,” saying this day “will remain eternal and a testament to the ingenuity and relentless determination of the Egyptian army”.

Sisi earlier marked the victory’s anniversary, paying tribute to the war’s martyrs as a source of inspiration “to win any battles in life”.

Sisi said those “martyrs of duty have achieved this great victory,” and that they inspire him with “the spirit of determination to protect the dignity of the nation and the permanent and powerful readiness to introduce the best meanings of loyalty, belonging and sacrifice to win any battle in life.”

Sisi said that the 10th of Ramadan victory “reflects the genius of the Egyptian military in restoring the land and defeating the impossible”.

Israel captured the Sinai Peninsula, Gaza Strip, West Bank, Old City of Jerusalem, and the Golan Heights in the Six-Day War that began on June 5, 1967.

On October 6, 1973 at 2:00 p.m. (Cairo time) the Egyptian Armed Forces launched its war against the Israeli troops bringing down Bar Lev Line (a series of fortifications).

As a result, the Israeli troops were forced to retreat 15 kilometers eastern the Suez Canal; meanwhile, Syrian troops waged the war near Golan Heights against the Israeli troops.

The war that lasted for almost two weeks paved the way for negotiations that gave rise to the Peace Treaty between Israel and Egypt in 1979, and the liberation of entire Sinai, except for Taba which was recovered by Egypt through international arbitration in 1989.
