CAIRO - 21 April 2020: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has delivered a message from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to South Africa’s Cyril Ramaphosa on the latest developments concerning the Renaissance Dam.

The message also focused on Egypt’s stance regarding the Ethiopian dam, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafez Tuesday.

Egypt is keen on consulting with South Africa, given its position in Africa and its current membership of the AU Bureau, Hafez noted.

In his meeting with Ramaphosa earlier today, visiting Shoukry said Cairo greatly appreciates efforts exerted by Cape Town where the Renaissance Dam file is concerned, the spokesman said.

The meeting took up the outcome of the latest Kinshasa talks, with Egypt reiterating the need to start serious negotiations that would lead to a binding legal agreement about the filling and operation of the dam and preserve interests and rights of all three countries involved, Hafez added.

Shoukry and Ramaphosa also discussed cooperation between the two countries and at the continental level, the spokesman said.
