CAIRO – 17 April 2021: The fifth episode of Ramadan soap opera ‘El Ekhteyar 2’ (The Choice) on the 2013 dispersal of pro-Muslim brotherhood sit-in of Rabaa has brought in memory sabotage acts committed by Muslim Brotherhood supporters nationwide.
The episode unified thousands of viewers against the terrorist-designate group and drove the group members up the wall after shedding light on a long list of crimes believed to be all committed by the group.
This included setting ablaze churches and police stations nationwide and killing and injuring police personnel and other citizens despite their religion who stood against their interests covered under the ruling of former President Mohamed Morsi.
The soap opera, co-starred by Karim Abdel Aziz and Ahmed Mekky, brought real footage as a credible evidence against the acts committed by the pro-MB protesters and the group members.
The 2013 dispersal of the Rabaa sit-in came after authorities reported violence acts and presence of weapons inside the pro-Muslim Brotherhood protesters.
The dispersal comes shortly after the security forces told protesters to leave the Rabaa square in Nasr City through safe paths secured by the police so that no casualties take place. Hundreds of protesters, however took place, including police officers and other personnel.
The episode recalled a famous under-construction building in the Rabaa square, where armed brotherhood supporters hided and heavily fired bullets and Molotov cocktails, resulting in a number of injuries among security forces.
The episode also recalls the killing of 14 officers in Kerdasa police station after being attacked by Brotherhood supporters in the wake of the sit-in dispersal in 2013.
This was one of the worst attacks in 2013. Kerdasa, a town on the suburbs of Giza, had the officers at the local police station beaten, killed, and had their dead bodies mutilated.

Wife of officer Amer Abdel Maksoud, who was brutally killed in Kerdasa, recalls how her husband died by being pulled on streets, loaded on a semi-truck, shot, given acid to drink after being told it was water, stripped of his clothes and thrown in a nearby farm.
The Kerdasa attack came in retaliation of the sit-in dispersal in Rabaa and Al-Nahda protests. The pro-Muslim Brotherhood protests besieged the police station and threw Molotov cocktails at the façade of the building. The police station went on fire with the police personnel enclosed inside.
Two women, Azza and Samia, participated in the mutilation and are now serving time.
Much of the footage was taken by the Muslim Brotherhood during their own acts of violence, which was later used to indict them legally.
The episode showcased brutal attacks on the police and Christians in Minya, Beni Suef, Fayoum, and other cities.
Footage from Minya showed Muslim Brotherhood followers storming local police stations and coming out with heavy weapons.
Other crimes
On 14 August 2013, the day of the sit-in dispersal, attacks were launched against more than 30 police stations and explosions took place around the Cairo Security Directorate and the Dakahlia Security Directorate.
The protesters attempted to storm Helwan police station, causing the death of three officers and other personnel as well as two civilians, according to reports.
The group supporters also set fire to the police station and destroyed 20 vehicles that belonged to it.
Two days later, the group supporters attacked Al-Azbakeya police station, injured 23 police personnel and set ablaze the police station.
Social media
Social media users viewed Episode 5 of El-Ekhteyar 2 as a good reference for the Muslim Brotherhood supporters' crimes against police, Christians and churches as well as Muslims and mosques and the whole nation at the time.
Shehab Khaled, a law student, says he will not remove today's El-Ekhteyar episode from his phone because it is a “historical manuscript documenting important events”.

Gamal Raif, a journalist and political thinker, said the episode “smashed the idols of the Brotherhood,” saying “fool is the one who thinks that he can defeat a state that is as old as the earth.”
