CAIRO – 17 April 2021: Millions of Egyptians are eagerly waiting for watching the fifth episode of Ramadan soap opera ‘El Ekhteyar 2’ (The Choice), which will be aired without commercial ads today, as it recalls the moment of the 2013 dispersal of pro-Muslim brotherhood sit-in of Rabaa.

The episode of the T.V. series is talking about a crucial and decisive moment in Egypt’s history after the overthrowing the one-year regime of the banned group of the Muslims Brotherhood; it will show how Egypt’s police personnel were dealing with the Muslim Brotherhood members and supporters’ risks when they were staging the sit-ins at the Squares of Rabaa El Adawiya, and Al Nahdah in Cairo and Giza.

The sit-ins were identified by security experts as one of the biggest threats to the national security of Egypt and the Arab region. On Aug. 14, 2013, security forces dispersed the sit-ins.

The United Media Services announced on Saturday that it will air the fifth episode of ‘El Ekhteyar 2’ (The Choice) series without commercial ads. The series is being screened on ON TV daily at 9:00 pm (Cairo time).  Egyptian megastars Karim Abdel Aziz and Ahmed Mekky are playing leading roles as police officers.

People on social media reacted enthusiastically to the United Media Services’ decision, recalling the moments that etched on their memories about the dispersal of the sit-ins ad other intimidation and violent acts committed by the Brotherhood members and supporters in 2013. One of such incidents is “Kerdasa massacre,” when Brotherhood members stormed a police station in Kerdasa, a stronghold of the Muslim Brotherhood at the time, and dismembered their bodies and killing two passers-by.

Sameh Fayez posted on his Facebook account the memory of attacking the police station, saying that he was an eye-witness to this “massacre” and how Brotherhood leaders stormed the station and killed 11 police personnel with a shootout that lasted for 6 hours.
