CAIRO – 14 April 2021: Egypt’s Ministry of Health early on Wednesday said 20 people were killed and 3 others were injured in a bus collision with a truck in Upper Egypt’s Assiut.
The collision took place on the Eastern Desert Road.
The ministry immediately after the incident sent 36 ambulances to transfer the deaths and injured citizens to the Eman Hospital and the Assiut General Hospital, a statement by the ministry read.
The injuries included bruises, fractures and cuts at separate parts of the body, the ministry said.
The ministry raised the degree of preparedness at the nearby hospitals, the statement said, adding that all the injured citizens are receiving the required medical care.
Road accidents in Egypt are believed to have significantly declined due to the new road projects that have been implemented in recent years.
The Egyptian Cabinet Information Center published an infographic last October showing a decline in the number of deaths caused by road accidents in Egypt in 2020, compared to the previous year.
According to the infographic, Egypt recorded 7,000 death cases in 2020, compared to 12,000 cases in 2019, representing a 44 percent decrease in the rate.
This progress is powered by the state’s steps to develop road and bridges sectors, and adopt road safety measures to reduce the number of injuries and deaths, according to the info.
