Chadian woman gives birth aboard EgyptAir flight

CAIRO – 7 April 2021: An EgyptAir flight made an emergency landing in Aswan Wednesday, after a Chadian woman aboard gave birth to her baby boy before the plane arrive in Cairo, its destination.

 

The plane took off from N’Djamena, the capital city of Chad, heading to Cairo International Airport. Pilot Mohamed Mokhtar was notified that Chadian passenger Kultumah Mohammed, 27, experienced pain and was going into labor.

 

Mohammed delivered her baby boy “Abdel Rahman” with the help of another passenger Laila Mohamed Abou Bakr, who is a student at Faculty of Medicine at Kasr el-Ainy University in Cairo. The cabin crew also helped her deliver her baby safely, while the plane was flying over Sudan.

 

The plane changed the flight path, and landed in Aswan, Mohammed was taken to Aswan University Hospital, where she received necessary medical care, and doctors ensured she and her baby are in good condition.

 

The woman and her newborn will remain at the hospital to receive postpartum care, while the flight took off again from Aswan heading to Cairo.
