Egyptian Youths Participate in UNODC’s International Youth Forum

CAIRO - 5 April 2021: For the first time, Egypt was chosen this year to participate in the opening ceremony of the International Youth Forum for Drug Control, organised by The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) between March 29 and April 2.

Rudeina Abu Al-Enein, 17, was nominated by the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Drug Abuse, headed by the Minister of Social Solidarity, to speak at the opening ceremony, presenting the experiences of 30,000 volunteers in implementing drug awareness programs.

This comes as a tribute to the experiences and initiatives of youth volunteers at the Fund, where volunteers implement awareness programs and various activities to prevent youth from falling into the clutches of addiction. University students represent 75 percent of the volunteers, and girls make up 65 percent.
 
 
The experiences of young men and women volunteering at the Fund were highly praised by the International Forum Committee.
 
The forum was held virtually, with the participation of 43 country delegations, including 66 young men and women from around the world, a number of ambassadors, country representatives and heads of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in Vienna.
 
Egypt’s active participation comes ahead of the high-level ministerial meeting of the Supreme Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) at its sixty-fourth session, which will be held from April 12 to 16, 2021, with the participation of the Fund.
