CAIRO – 4 July 2017: The House of Representatives approved extension of state of emergency in the country for additional three months, during its general session on Tuesday.

Enforcement of the additional three month will start on July 10.
This came following the cabinet approval in late June for the President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi proposal, to extend the state of emergency for three more months.

The state of emergency was declared in the country in April by the president, following Palm Sunday attacks on two Egyptian churches in Alexandria and Tanta.

It was the first time to be declared following January 25 revolution. However, State of Emergency is imposed in North Sinai since 2014.

The state of emergency could result in high emergency security procedures that had been stopped in Egypt in May 2012 by the armed forces after being enforced for many decades in the country.
