Third art exhibit to feature dozens of different types of artwork in Nile Ballroom
If you’re an art lover, it isn’t always easy to know where to find a good selection of paintings and art in various styles, from classic to contemporary. As an alternative to browsing dozens of galleries, Arts-Mart, the region’s largest online arts gallery, is hosting its third major exhibit on Tuesday at the Four Seasons Nile Plaza that will give fans a rare opportunity to see many different types of artwork all in one place. From Egypt’s best-known artists to young up-and-coming talent, the event will offer fans the chance to browse an array of paintings, drawings and multi-media work, and to mingle with the artists themselves.
The exhibit begins at 12 p.m. and ends at 10 p.m. in the Nile Ballroom. It is free and open to the public, and is expected to attract the attention of media, art connoisseurs, artists and VIPs.
It is the online gallery’s third major exhibit to date since the website launched in December 2012. Featured artists at the exhibit will include Lina Mowafy, a full-time painter who studied portraiture at the Charles Cecil Portraiture School in Florence, Italy, and Mohamed Rabie from Menya, whose artwork is deeply rooted in his hometown and the heritage of southern Egypt. The works of Mohamed El Damarawy, an artist on the rise, will also be featured with its references to Ancient Egypt and compositions full of brilliant color.
Artists have said the Arts-Mart exhibits in Cairo offer many artists from outside of the capital a chance to get exposure, and give young artists a chance to get their work seen even if they don’t have a well-known name or reputation behind them. For potential buyers, the exhibits are a chance to browse anything from traditional landscapes of the Nile River to postmodern paintings of city crowds with blank faces.
“Like their home country, the artists are multi-faceted, deep-rooted and exciting. Their pieces are inspired and their art truly unique. Arts-Mart strides to provide an open, unbiased, wide-ranging and transparent look into Egyptian art today,” the organizers said in a statement. “Art reflects the diversity of the Egyptian experience and its various ideologies. It is an honest view of the essence of the Egyptian character which has largely remained constant through time.”
The Arts-Mart website offers worldwide shipping and artwork starting at LE 200, and features some 500 art pieces and aims to give Egyptian artists an international audience. It also takes the hassle out of the process of finding and buying art with its easy-to-use search features. The website lets potential buyers browse the collection by color, or by topics like vintage, revolution, most popular artists and Egyptian culture.
